Lecture Series

Dr Barry Walsh. MB (NUI) FRCPath, MSc (Lond.). MA (Lond) 

Barry Walsh was a Consultant in Communicable Disease Control (CCDC) South West London Health Protection Team part of Public Health England. He worked for 24 years in public health specialising in the control and prevention of Infectious Diseases.

He qualified in medicine at the University of Cork Ireland in 1981. After House Officer roles in Cork he moved to England where he started training in pathology.

He specialised in medical microbiology first at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington and later at the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford. Barry got his Membership in medical microbiology (MRC Path) in 1991.He has a keen interest in Immunisation and Travel Medicine. He completed the Diploma in Travel Medicine Glasgow in 2006. 

He works as a professional Blue Badge tour guide in London specialising in medical and art history tours. He has a BA in the History of Art (Birkbeck College 1989) and won the Osler medal for the Diploma in History of Medicine at the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries 1991. He completed a Diploma in the Asian Art at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in 2017. In 2020 he completed an MA in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art specialising in Persian Art of 17th Century
